Keywords:
To fret means to press down on the string behind a fret
Whenever you see an "x" on a chord, do not play those strings. Take the D chord for example: xx0232.

You only play 1st – 4th strings, but avoid playing the 5th and 6th strings.

In summary: Numbers represent fret number to press string against. Far left number is the 6th string and far right number is the 1st string. 1st string is the thinnest and 6th string is thickest. Do not play "x" and do not fret when playing "0".
Take this G chord for example: 320003.

You would place your fingers on the third fret on the 6th string, second fret on the 2nd string and 3rd fret on the first string. The "0" mean strings 2,3,4 are open strings and played without fretting.
